Property Investment: Meet the Experts seminar

Post by Mearns & Company in News

On Thursday 26th September, Malcom Steel, Mearns & Company’s Client Services Director chaired the 2019 Property Investment: Meet the Experts seminar at the Royal Scots Club in Edinburgh.

Fellow panel members Karen Turner, Rettie & Co, John Dunney, Braidwood Graham, Stuart George, Borland Insurance and David McGregor, Direct Financial Management, all ensured that the tax, insurance, investment and operational aspects of investing in property were fully covered.

It was interesting to hear from Stuart and David about the importance of keeping insurance providers and mortgage lenders updated as to any changes in the way rental properties are occupied, to ensure that the terms of the policies remain valid.

The discussions also highlighted the many changes that are currently taking place that could have an impact on landlords. For example, changes to tax relief, potential regulation of short-term letting within Edinburgh, and more professionalism being brought into the buy-to-let mortgage market. With all of these changes occurring simultaneously, it is important for landlords to consider taking advice from the appropriate professional, to ensure that they are not being negatively impacted.

Our guests took away some valuable insights from each of the panel members’ contributions and there were great questions posed by the audience in the Q&A session afterwards.

We would like to thank all of the attendees for coming along, their contributions made the event a great success. The Royals Scots Club was an excellent venue, and the staff there were fantastic.

If you are interested in finding out more about property and its role in an investment strategy, and you weren’t able to come along on the night, then please do get in touch.
