Leading the field in fair work
Post by Mearns & Company in News
The Scottish Government recently published its Fair Work Action Plan. This sets out a range of measures to support employers to embed fairer working practices.
At its launch, Nicola Sturgeon said –
“For employees fair work means decent wages, secure contracts and just working practices. Fair work is not only right in principle, it also results in better health and greater wellbeing for workers. In turn this drives creativity, innovation and productivity. It also reduces staff turnover, which means increased profitability for businesses.
For years the Scottish Government has championed good employment practices through schemes such as the Scottish Business Pledge and Living Wage accreditation, and we are now strides ahead of the rest of the UK in many areas.”
From our perspective, the launch of this Action Plan is timely, as in January we were honoured to have been featured as one of Scotland’s Fair Work Convention’s first four video case studies.
Click on the link below to watch the video and find out about our commitment to building a positive culture and supportive learning environment and how this has benefitted us as a business.
We are already holders of the Scottish Business Pledge and Living Wage accreditation. In November 2018 we were delighted to be awarded Investors in People Platinum accreditation. We are the fourth financial and insurance services organisation to achieve this in the UK.
“There is a real belief that clients genuinely come first, and an understanding that it is a formula for longer term success.” (Mearns & Company Investors in People report 2018)
We were awarded IIP Platinum accreditation for our:
- commitment to staff development;
- culture that empowers our employees; and our
- “client comes first” ethos.
“Everyone is learning” “The company grows, I grow” “This job is the best thing that has happened to me” “I love it here”
These quotes are just a sample of what our colleagues said about working here in our Investors in People assessment.
Being selected to feature as a national case study, achieving IIP Platinum status and receiving feedback like this is wonderful, as it proves that what we are doing for our clients and our colleagues is making a positive difference.
